What is Uninsured Motorist Coverage?
Well, the law requires everyone in the state to be insured but, unfortunately, a small percentage of people do not have insurance coverage. So, what happens if you are involved in an accident with someone who is uninsured? Who do you make a claim be against? Or, you can purchase coverage from your own insurance company called Uninsured Motorist Coverage. This will provide protection if you or a family member or an occupant in your vehicle is injured. They can recover from the uninsured motorist provision of your insurance policy. Now, New Jersey law requires a minimum of fifteen thousand dollars worth of uninsured motorist coverage, but most people feel that’s not adequate to protect themselves or family members if they are injured in an accident with someone who is uninsured. So, most people purchase either a hundred or three hundred thousand dollars worth of uninsured motorist coverage. What I recommend is that people purchase five hundred thousand of single limit uninsured motorist protection, so as to provide adequate coverage for themselves and their family members if they are injured by an uninsured driver.
