I’m often asked the question, do I need a lawyer to represent me when I’ve had a car accident and what type of lawyer should I hire.

My first answer is always yes. You absolutely need a lawyer when you’ve been in a car accident it’s because it’s not just you against the other driver, it’s you against the other driver’s insurance company. It’s your lawyer that will even that playing field. The question as to what type of lawyer is also simple. You need a lawyer who specializes in motor vehicle personal injury work. That is because this field has become as complicated as any other field of law.

When I starting practicing law 20 years ago and I went to the annual seminar every summer on the automobile changes in the law, you got one book that was about an inch thick. When I went this year, we’re now up to two books, about three inches thick and you can see how the law is changing, becoming more complicated. Unless your lawyer lives and breathes motor vehicle personal injury work on a daily basis there is no way they can properly represent you in today’s climate.
