Claiming Lost Income from Auto Accident Insurance - Gerald Baker

Gerald Baker on Automobile Accident Law

If you’ve been involved in an accident and can’t work the question always arises can I be paid for my lost income. The answer is yes, the question is when.

If you have lost income coverage under your policy your insurance company will start paying your lost income after the first 30 days. The first five days are excluded from coverage which is standard in all Pennsylvania policies and then typically your policy will limit your amount of coverage per month and per total.

The most common lost income coverage on a policy is $1,000 per month up to five months. However, if you are losing time from work and you do not have lost income coverage under your policy your lost income claim becomes part of your overall claim against the driver that caused your injury. In that situation you will typically be paid for your lost wages, but not until the end of the case when the entire claim is resolved.
